Our final YAG Senior Spotlight is Andrea. Andrea joined the Youth Health Advisory Group in her junior year. She’s an active participant in ACCESS NM, a local nonprofit that focuses on supporting families and children by connecting individuals and families to healthcare, employment, and other essential resources.

Joining YAG has helped Andrea become more comfortable taking initiative and understand all the ways to promote health and wellness.

Her involvement in YAG and ACCESS NM has opened her eyes to the needs of young people in New Mexico. “More attention needs to be brought to health issues that are not physical,” she said.

Andrea believe outreach and community involvement are key in spreading the word about the invaluable services SBHCs offer.

Her involvement in healthcare doesn’t stop with YAG. Andrea plans to attend university to pursue a degree in nursing.

Her advice to new members joining YAG? “Make the most of it,” she said.

If you or someone you know would like to join the Youth Health Advisory Group in the upcoming school year, reach out to Wilma at wilma@nmasbhc.org, or visit our YAG page for more information.
