Our Work

The New Mexico Alliance for School-Based Health Care represents school-based health centers (SBHCs) in New Mexico and collaborates with other partners to promote, facilitate and advocate for comprehensive, integrated, and culturally competent health care, including health education, in schools. We serve all of the school-based health centers (SBHCs) in New Mexico; there are over 70 such clinics located across the state, including in rural, frontier, urban and tribal communities. Many serve all ages of children and some serve the whole family unit.

Our Services

Our Reach

  • We serve all of the school-based health centers in New Mexico, which includes:
Rural, frontier, urban and tribal communities.
  • Clinics that serve all ages of children and some that serve adults.
  • We regularly consult with three separate state agencies (DOH, HSD, and PED) on issues relevant to school-based health care.
  • We have annual communication with every state and federal New Mexico legislator.
  • We have annual communication with every superintendent and principal with oversight of an SBHC.

Our Core Values

  • We believe in universal access to affordable, high quality health care provided in schools and communities because good health is essential for student success, and health care, like public education, is a right.
  • We believe in advocating for the health of children and youth and for the provision of high quality, accessible, confidential, comprehensive, integrated, and culturally competent health care in schools.
  • We believe in celebrating diversity in the community of students, parents, providers, and schools.
  • We believe that SBHCs, as a valuable component of the healthcare delivery system, should be appropriately funded and reimbursed.
