Hello and Yá’át’ééh to all the staff, students, family, friends and advocates of School Based Health Centers (SBHC) in New Mexico. I have only been at NMASBHC for two weeks, but I am not new to seeing firsthand the impact that having access to a SBHC presents for children and youth in our communities. After spending 5 ½ years primarily at Albuquerque High, I have learned one great lesson. And it is that there is a great amount of collaboration, dedication and investment that goes into making the daily flow of a SBHC appear seamless, most of it unseen and quite often taken for granted. It requires involvement from everyone – political leaders, healthcare organizations, universities, state, county and city governmental entities, community agencies, school administration, teachers and school staff, highly skilled medical professionals, amazingly dedicated staff, students and countless individuals who support and advocate for SBHCs. It truly takes a village to support our youth. Thank you for what you all do on a daily basis. I am excited to learn more about how NMASBHC works to support you all. I look forward to meeting and seeing you all at upcoming events.
Sincerely,
Wilma
