NM Department of Health, Managing Asthma in NM Schools 2009 (PDF)
Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Pulmonary Asthma Teleclinic. Project ECHO is an innovative model in treating complex chronic diseases in rural and under-served areas of New Mexico. Via technology, ECHO bridges the gap between urban healthcare specialists and providers, including school based health centers and school nurses in rural settings. The Pulmonary/Asthma teleclinic meets the second and fourth Fridays from noon to 1 PM. We will extend that time for school nurse staff who are busy over the lunch hour. Providers, including nurses and school-based health center providers, present de-identified cases to Dr. Harkins, Associate Professor in pulmonary and critical care at UNM's Dept of Internal Medicine. Dr. Harkins or a guest speaker presents information on a pulmonary/asthma topic, answers questions about cases, co-manages difficult cases, and reviews current best practice guidelines in treatment.
